Overview
When we talk about the most defining features of your
facial appearance, your brows have a dramatic impact.
Eyebrows play a vital role in articulating and outlining
your eyes. Who does not desire to have beautiful and
highly-arched brows? If you’re unhappy about your
furrowed brows, a brow lift surgery can give your face a
subtle lift that will eventually enhance your natural
looks. Consider a brow lift if you feel like your brows
are sagging and need support. In today’s article, we
will discuss the benefits, procedures, and possible
risks of a brow lift surgery. Let’s begin with
understanding what brow lift surgery is.
What is a brow lift surgery?
A brow lift is a simple yet minimally invasive
procedure that focuses on the tissue of the forehead
while giving a more youthful look. A brow lift can also
be referred to as a forehead lift or a forehead
rejuvenation. This cosmetic surgery helps raise the
brows and improves the appearance of the forehead, the
brow, and the site around the eyes by uplifting the soft
tissue and skin of the forehead and brow.
A brow lift can be considered alone or with other surgical procedures such as a facelift, skin resurfacing, or eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty).
What are some of the amazing benefits of brow lift
surgery?
Everyone deserves to adore their beauty while looking
in the mirror. A brow not only enhances appearance but
also boosts your confidence. Apart from softening your
wrinkles and tightening the skin, brow lift has other
benefits too! Let’s have a look at the points
below.
Restores the natural arch in your eyebrows.
Who is a good candidate for brow lift
surgery?
You might be an ideal candidate for brow lift surgery
if you:
Do not smoke,
Are physically healthy,
Have realistic expectations and a positive outlook
toward the results.
As you grow old, frown lines tend to make you look serious. If you are concerned about the signs of ageing, you might consider a brow lift surgery.
What are the possible risks of brow lift
surgery?
Like any other type of surgical procedure, there are
some risks associated with brow lift surgery,
including:
Make sure you discuss your expected goals with your surgeon before getting started. Though your surgeon will assess your medical history and other complication factors, feel free and discuss every question that comes to your mind.
How to prepare for brow lift surgery?
As discussed earlier, a brow lift is a minimally
invasive cosmetic surgery, so there isn’t much to worry
about or be conscious of before the scheduled
appointment. Right after reviewing your thorough medical
history, conducting a physical exam, and discussing your
expectations, the surgeon will prescribe you certain
medications. Your plastic surgeon will guide you through
what medicines to avoid and curate a plan for you to
follow.
Ensure that you avoid consuming any aspirin or anti-inflammatory drugs, as it increases the chances of bleeding or infection. Also, avoid smoking. Brow lift surgery is more often performed in an accredited surgical facility, a licensed ambulatory surgical centre, or a hospital. For the safer side, you will need to set for a friend or family member to drive you to and from surgery and stay with you the first night following surgery.
What is the procedure of brow lift surgery?
The procedure is pretty simple and performed in three
steps.
Step 1 – Anesthesia
To ease the surgical process; anaesthesia is
given.
Based on your surgical type- your surgeon will suggest,
either general anaesthesia or intravenous
sedation.
Step 2 – The incision
Brow lift procedures range depending on your expected results. The precise technique your surgeon prefers will define the location of the incisions and the resulting scars. Your doctor might operate one of the following techniques.
Endoscopic brow lift. Your surgeon will make several small incisions behind your hairline. Then insert a long thin tube with a light, and a tiny camera mounted on its rear (endoscope) via one of the incisions to consider your underlying muscles and tissues.
With the help of an instrument inserted through another incision, your surgeon will lift your forehead tissues and anchor them in position with sutures, small screws, or another method. Your incisions are then closed with stitches or small clips.
Coronal brow lift. In this method, your surgeon will create an incision behind your hairline over the top of your head, from ear to ear, or essentially on the top of your head. Then, he will raise your forehead into its new position, with the scalp in front of the incision coinciding with the scalp behind it.
The overlapping scalp is thereafter removed, and the remaining scalp is stitched together. This technique is not considered for people having high hairlines, thin hair, or who are liable to lose their hair.
Hairline brow lift. In this method, your surgeon will create an incision between the top of your forehead and the beginning of your hairline. Then, the surgeon will remove a little portion of skin and tissue from the top of your forehead rather than your scalp. As a result, your hairline would not be pulled back.
A hairline brow lift is generally performed, when an individual has a high receding hairline. However, while healing, a scar might be visible along the hairline.
Step 3 – Sealing the incisions.
What should one expect after the surgery?
After a brow lift, your forehead might be loosely
wrapped to reduce swelling. A tiny tube might be placed
along the incision area to drain any surplus blood or
fluid.
Your surgeon will give you detailed instructions on how to take care of your incisions. In the initial days of your recovery:
Rest with your head heightened and take painkillers as
recommended by the surgeon.
Apply cold compresses to relieve swelling.
Avoid uncovering your incisions to extreme stress or
activity.
As your incisions recover, you might encounter itching and numbness, which will likely subside over the duration. If your incisions are covered in dressings, your doctor will release them in one to three days. Sutures typically will be removed within seven to ten days of the surgery. Your doctor will advise you to resume your daily activities after a few days. The swelling might stay for a few weeks. However, the incision lines will disappear over time. You might use cosmetics to suppress any prolonged bruising.
Results
By boosting the soft tissue and skin of your forehead
and brow, surgery ends up giving you a more refreshed
and youthful appearance. As you age, gravity makes your
facial skin sag, hence the results are not
forever.
Although great results are recorded after the surgery,
keep in mind that no surgery lasts forever. As you age,
your facial skin might begin to droop again. Sun
protection is likely to maintain your appearance. In
essence, a healthy lifestyle aids in extending the
results.
